Olives

Luxurious, spacious and refreshingly casual all-day dining spot Reviews

Its reputation precedes it, and thankfully Olives does not disappoint. Luxurious, spacious surroundings with imposing marble pillars, and vertiginous ceilings that conjure Michelangelo moments set the scene. But you need only follow your nose to track this eatery down; the aroma of promising, authentic cuisine beckons you inside. Irresistible smells and the relaxing atmosphere are not the only temptations, however.

The real treat lies at the poolside terrace whose tasteful lighting creates a truly intimate experience that’s topped off by seaside views. The à la carte menu is suitably varied, but don’t write off the all-you-can-eat buffet, which would challenge even the hardiest of buffet critics to think again; the hot and cold offerings are fresh, crisp, and, when it’s called for, piping hot. Noteworthy starters include the juicy prawns in the seafood salad and for mains, the beef fillet dish is an excellent choice.

Dessert-wise, the only tut-factor is the excess of stodgy puddings when, after so much food, a fluffy mousse or delicate panna cotta would be a preferable option.

I had very bad experience with the above mentioned restaurant.
We were on dinner br.
The food was col and dry. Variety of food was poor.
The way food were cooked is terrible as well as the presentation of it.
Desserts were so sweet.
I have no idea how this restaurant is still on under the roof of great hotel.

I have always disliked the use of heat lamps ref buffets as over used they dry food out and make it most unpleasant from an asthetic view point and from most importantly a taste perspective. I took some friends to Olives and the food was terrible. Cold, greasy with chefs milling around who when asked were unable to verify what certain dishes were. The staff were equally clueless and struggled to get a bottle of water to the table. All in all for such a venue this was a big let down and certainly with the choice we have one that will not be repeated. For the record the F&B manager was written to and did not even acknowledge receipt of the comments made, so perhaps someone needs to find a different vocation. This is Dubai which depends on toursism and therefore review! AVOID THIS RESTAURANT!

After reading a favourable Time Out review, I went to Olives with my family (seven of us) for a Friday dinner and was thoroughly disappointed. Firstly by the quality of the staff and their understanding - or lack thereof - of what was being requested. Our pizza order was wrongly delivered, twice, my son was given ketchup after asking for extra tomato sauce for his pasta and the waitress tried to take my daughter's plate while she was still eating.
My pizza, ordered vegetarian, came with ham. I was assured a replacement would be given within 10 minutes - it took over 25 minutes to get it and the two extra toppings ordered were missing. The bread basket was treated as if it contained valuable treasure, with bread being handed out parsimoniously and then only if asked for. Following a request for bread, only the person asking was served without anyone else at the table being offered any. The manager promised to sort out the issues with the pizza and the extra sauce (after first telling me I would have to pay for an extra portion of pasta when all I wanted was extra sauce), but didn't come back to check if all was well. I had to ask for the offending pizza to be cut from the bill - nothing else was done to make up for the terrible service or the delayed time. We spent nearly 2 hours there and left having eaten only main courses. It most definitely is not a place I would recommend to my friends.
