From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2008

Located in the centre of the Jumeirah Emirates Towers Boulevard, this Japanese eaterie will get all of your senses tingling. First there is the entertainment – except that’s not really what it is; it’s the chef cooking your dinner on a hot plate in front of your very eyes.

If you book ahead, make sure you’re sat ringside, and prepare to be amazed as the man in the tall hat twirls his knives and slices with lightning-quick precision, spinning salt, pepper, dressing and spices, then scooping up and dropping the results directly onto your plate.

There are three set menus on offer – basically meat, seafood or surf ’n’ turf, which is the best of both worlds. Each begins with a hearty miso soup, complete with melt in the mouth tofu, followed by a salad of green leaves and seaweed, and shrimp or tempura depending on your choice.

A sashimi platter of salmon, hammour and snapper may also find its way to your table. But it’s the selection of scallops, salmon, lobster tail, prawns, vegetables and steak, sliced and diced and sizzled in front of you, that proves the highlight here, the chef occasionally vanishing behind a whoosh of smoke and flame. And every piece of juicy soft meat is divine.

The lobster and steak in particular are worthy of crossing chopsticks over with your dining partner. Finish with a serving of smooth red bean ice-cream, featuring tiny bean pods that just burst in the mouth.

I would not go again, we were there last week and all the sauces were the same on the Steak, Chicken and Prawns, the food it not worth the money any more, it was great in 2006 but we were in and out in one hour, been to better Tappanyaki's, very disapointing for Dubai

Tried both the restaurants now, and I will never go back there.

Upstairs, the Teppanyaki was bad. We where in and out in one hour. On a day off I would like to relax and sit a while with my food. Besides that, we had the Crab Salad. This should be Crab Salad and not Crabstick Salad (price wise a BIG difference). Also the Tempura came while we were still eating a first course. Our Tempura was cold when we started to eat it.

Downstairs, the Sushi place.... very pricy for what you get. The quality is not the best (what you would expect when you see the prices). Edamame was not hot and not tasty. The sushi-rice was way overcooked and to sweet. We had 6 pieces of sushi, 9 pieces of nigiri, 2 miso soup, and 2 drinks for the price of 260 AED.

We also been to Zuma for lunch once, and at least they have a good menu for a nice price!

Frequent visitor for business lunches. Average at best and less so considering the money
