For Dhs275 you can get lunch and dinner every day at Chef Lanka for a month. That’s an astonishing Dhs4.5 per meal. OK, so the décor is not exactly 5-star (although we liked the pictures of Sri Lankan beaches on the walls), but you are paying less than you would for a packet of cigarettes, and the food is far less likely to kill you. The menu is also pretty broad, so you won’t tire of this restaurant half way through the month!
Sri Lankan curries are the speciality, but if you get bored of these richly spiced dishes you can opt instead for not so hot Chinese. Lunchtime fare is also different to the evenings. Snacks like patties and toast are served in the afternoon before the full menu is unleashed in the evening.
If you think an entire month at the same restaurant is a bit of a stretch, you will have to pay the day rate of around Dhs20 per head.
