From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009
Probably one of the liveliest places in the Madinat Jumeirah faux-souk, Bar Zar is definitely one for drinkers rather than eaters. That’s not to say the food is bad – it’s perfectly workmanlike – but the venue’s dedicated fan base means that you’ll be hard pushed to find somewhere to put your plate if you do decide to order something to eat.
And the loud music, almost drowned out by the bellowing crowd, is hardly conducive to relaxed eating. Still, if you’re after a fun night with and a quick bite along the way, Bar Zar could be right up your street.
Park yourself out by the waterway, tuck into a burger and enjoy the breeze with your friends and colleagues. You’ll barely notice the food, but that’s no problem if the company’s good.
And if you do want a quieter meal, then head along at some point midweek and pop out to the upstairs balcony. It’s not the biggest space in the world, but the leather sofas are fine for sprawling on, the music is muted and the views across the Madinat are memorable.
