From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009
Barasti is the most unashamedly expat bar in Dubai, having the air of a British-run resort somewhere in Spain. It also has a reputation as something of a meat market once the sun goes down, but get there during the daytime and you’ll find a perfectly pleasant place for a relaxed meal with friends.
The menu is surprisingly varied, offering Indian, Arabian and Italian food, as well as burgers. It’s not the cheapest bar food you’ll find in Dubai, but it’s not the most expensive either – and for the money you’re paying, the quality is high indeed. But the real appeal of Barasti is the venue itself.
Flopping out in a comfy chair on the decking and letting the breeze blow lazily over you is a classic expat experience. The view over the beach might not be much – the usual Dubai apartment blocks and, in the distance, the Atlantis hotel – but it’s a pleasant experience all the same.
It won the Time Out award for Best Bar Food in 2008, and, although it still ranks pretty high, it’s got to up its game food-wise to compete with some new players on the block.
