Blue Bar

Jazz infused bar food in the financial district Discuss this article

From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009

This spot is a good bar, popularised by the live jazz acts that play here (and play to a very high standard), but it is not somewhere to visit for food.

The options are acceptable (burgers, crab cakes, satays, etc) but simple dishes are poorly executed. The Blue Bar burger comes with two slices of flavourless, disintegrating ciabatta bread encasing the meat, and cold fries.

The satay sticks come protruding from a slice of pineapple, and any kitsch appeal is lost by the presentation of the meat, which, while tasting fine, looks like a sparrow kebab. On Time Out’s most recent visit, an attempt to order the risotto was met with, ‘Have you had it before?’ We hadn’t, and our waiter, in a show of endearing honesty, smiled, shook his head and said, ‘Order something else’.

The food is largely acceptable, but pretty uninspired and in parts can be very disappointing. When it is full, and the house band is in full swing, this bar carries a great atmosphere. And on those occasions, the food will fill a hole; just don’t expect anything more.
