From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009

Don’t come to cigar bar Casa Del Habano if you’re starving, or if you like a tipple or two with your stogie. The dishes and non-alcoholic drinks on the miniscule menu are merely designed to complement the cigars you can puff on.

But what it does do, it does well. More than 1,000 kinds of cigars are on offer, the interior is mahogany leather and there is a video feed of women hand rolling the rich man’s cigarette.

However, the machismo of the enterprise is robbed slightly by the virgin bevvies, teacups of soup, delicate salads and caviar ‘purses’ placed before you. You may feel like royalty with such luxuries, but, perhaps more a queen then a king.

The difficult thing about La Casa Del Habano is that it is essentially a good cigar bar with some small things working against it, depending on your appetite and expectations: it doesn’t serve alcohol, the portions are small, and the prices a little higher than you’d want them to be (the small selection of caviar weighing in at Dhs150). But the differences may well be surmountable if all you’re after is a relaxed atmosphere, a well-made snack, and a fat stogie.
