Lan Kwai-Fong - Restaurant Award Highly Commended

Authentic Chinese food in Oud Metha Reviews

From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009

Another to put in the ‘now I’m too bloated to move’ category, Lan Kwai Fong’s setting, not far from the Mövenpick Hotel, is a far cry from its namesake, the busy area of Hong Kong famous for its bars and rowdy spirit.

From the outside it doesn’t look like much – appearing like a dark canteen, or old-fashioned hall – but inside, it appears authentic and a largely Chinese clientele suggests this doesn’t end with the decor.

The appetiser platter gives a taste of what’s to come: good food and plentiful portions, though like so many of Dubai’s Chinese restaurants, waiters will pile up dishes until you have no room to move.

The half crispy duck is a shrewd bet, and a plate full of succulently pink and juicy slivers of duck arrive with the usual accoutrements, awaiting the ancient ritual of the rolling of pancakes with plum sauce.

The mains are an accomplished collection; the rice is also unusually good. As with all Chinese restaurants, desserts are best left on the menu, but overall this is a pretty consistent effort and well worth stopping by.

Probably best in Bur Dubai - the best Chinese are in Deira. However, not a patch on China Sea. If you want real value for money and know your way around more authentic Chinese food, try the scruffier looking restaurant just next door.

Certainly the best oriental food fusion we have experienced . Great value for money ! Its a must visit for when my friends come to town. Supervised and sometimes served by the owner Sam it demonstrates care and focus for personalised prompt service . I highly recommend a visit once, twice and more if you like it. All my friends and aquaintances certainly did and we get to meet them more there.

absolutely incredible. We#ve read the review from Timeout Dubai and wanted to try the experience of a whole peking duck. Our taxi-driver discussed long with us that he knows every asian restaurant in this area, but Lan Kwai-Fong couldn't exist. It exists and is a beautiful spot. Typical chinese, simple but great. friendly service, great food. Definately not the last time here. Good to trust Timeout Dubai.
