From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009

You are likely to get pangs of lifestyle envy while driving past villas in the plush Emirates Hills, but you can have a slice of the residents’ lives by dining at Nineteen, the Montgomerie clubhouse’s top-notch restaurant.

The service is friendly and efficient, the decor classy and the food exquisite. Yet you won’t feel like you have to sit up straight and watch your ‘P’s and ‘Q’s, because the atmosphere is relaxed.

The view of water and rolling greens from the terrace adds to the feeling of contentment. Sit back and enjoy the crumbly goats cheese starter, and the seafood mains like monkfish and halibut are superb and bursting with flavour.

Complete your dinner with Nineteen’s three chocolate dessert and groan as you sip on a liquid shot of the stuff. It does lack a buzz, as it can be a quiet place. This may be because of its tucked-away location, so only golfers and residents have the pleasure of dining there regularly.

But even if you think a sand wedge is a midday snack and you live in more of a hole than in the Hills, you can still enjoy this gem of a restaurant. And we recommend you do.

  • Would you go back to this restaurant? No

We had some guests over and we wanted to take them to one of the best brunches in Dubai, since they've already been to Al Qasr and we wanted something less extravagant, we thought Nineteen would be our best choice, and what a choice. It was the most DISSAPOINTING brunch we've ever been to:
- The food variety was at its minimal: 3 types of cheese, a salad bar with the basics, 4 different main menus each smaller than the other (we actually had to order 2 main menus to satisfy our appetite)
- One our guests was allergic to dairy products so we asked his steak fillet to come with French fries rather than buttery mash, but oh no the chef couldn't pull any other form of potatoes but the mash, and what a mash...TGI Friday's does it better.
- Only serving 2 types of alcohol
- The desert buffet was ok but again little variety in even smaller portions.

All in all extremely disappointing experience, of course the decor was very nice and the view amazing, but you don't go to a restaurant for the decor nor the view, you go there for the food.
For a restaurant that has won 4 Time Out Awards for its brunch, we honestly couldn't see the reason!
