Glancing up at the Metropolitan Palace, you would never guess this Deira hotel houses a bona-fide restaurant renegade.

Sketch chef Dirk Friebel prides himself on innovation and shirks away from convention. So you can forget about starting your meal with a basket of plastic-wrapped Arabic bread.

Instead, your culinary journey begins with pink-coloured strawberry bread. Smear it with cherry butter, and then tuck into a beef filled with chilli-chocolate sauce, or salmon with raspberry sauce.

It may sound wacky, but it works. And if experimental, noveau fusion isn’t up your alley, there are less off-the-wall options to choose from, as well as an extensive bar list, comfy sofas, DJs and theme nights.
