A Chinese restaurant decked out like a diner? Authenticity is not high on the menu at Mini Chinese; as testified to by the big screen TV playing Premiership football games in the far corner.

Whitewashed walls and Western prints confuse its origins even more. Certainly its clientele seem satisfied enough – generally a mix of singletons and work colleagues grabbing an end-of-day snack. It’s definitely not somewhere you go to for a special night out, but that doesn’t mean you should dismiss it.

Check out the special menu for the appetiser platter – it’s a good introduction – if fundamentally a culinary heart attack of fried Chinese delicacies. The chilli and garlic prawns are also well worth the journey – they practically melt out of their shells. Simply put: Mini Chinese is a good spot to end the day with a paper and one eye on the telly. The service is swift and courteous, the food satisfying.

I went to the new Mini Chinese branch in Ibn Battuta Mall. I was shocked about the under-earthy quality. Ordered springrolls - greasy and hold warm [warm at best] - not even fried fresh; spicy beef was full of MSG. Really, the MSG character was stronger than the chili peppers used; The wok noodles were not better. The only thing what was at least better than mediocre, were the chicken wontons. They were made fresh, even though their taste was quite muted [maybe they didn't used MSG there and I ate all other MSG laden things before]. Awful - even given the very cheap price, it is not at all worth it!

Wish I had read this review and the comments before taking my family and spoiling my Saturday Dinner. Everything from the word 'go was bad. If the management still have'nt learnt from the review and the comments, I think they should put a 'What to expect here' board. The staple main course took 45 minutes. The chopsuey was not only bland. The drinks were forgotten to be served (we should have known that 1 hr is a long time from order to service). Any other restaurant would have atleast tried to make up for the sloppy service and food by atleast offering discount or cancelling the 'not eaten' dishes.

Atmosphere more like a canteen than a restaurant.
Table was wet after cleaning.
Food was bad, canned green peas in the rice!!. No taste or flavour in all 3 dishes ordered.

For me, this restaurant committed the ultimate felony when I spotted canned mushrooms in everything we'd ordered.

My husband's duck was okayish but everything else on the table was either bland, boring or both.

Also, we almost broke a couple of forks trying to separate the caramelised sugar from the banana in the banana toffee dessert.

If you really must go, stick to the day's specials and don't expect anything memorable.
