From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009
Bistro Madeleine is a ballsy little entity. Situated down the hall from one of Dubai’s newest culinary goliaths, Reflets Par Pierre Gagnaire, the petite bistro faces some stiff competition.
Undoubtedly, it is hoping to escape comparison by billing itself as a quaint little eatery, plucked from the very streets of Paris. Or perhaps, by offering unpretentious grub and considerably cheaper fare, it imagines itself the InterContinental’s humble hero? A veritable David in the desert?
Fortunately, the tiny bistro offers some excellent – if simple – food. Earlier in the year, we would have said that our hero should pack it up and go home, but since then it has improved the quality of its fare remarkably. Unfortunately, the restaurant still suffers from some inconsistencies.
One evening might produce an expertly cooked slab of grilled salmon, while on another night the same fish is a tad dry. The French toast breakfast had us in raptures on one visit, but a second outing found it cut too thickly and served without accoutrements.
Still, by and large, we like the food the place puts out, and most of all, we like the price.
