From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009
It is clear on arrival at the Antique Bazaar that this north Indian restaurant wants to prove it isn’t just another appendix to a bland hotel lobby.
Firstly, there are the signed photographs of famous Indians recommending its fare. Then, there’s the ornate, dark decor that surrounds you. And, impressively, there is the live music, demanding a not-inconsiderable portion of the Bazaar’s floorspace.
The restaurant specialises in dishes from Hyderabad, and the food is satisfying and reasonably tasty, but nothing particularly exciting. If it was totally delicious, you could understand why waiters take offence if you leave any in the bowl and push it onto your plate in spite of your protests.
The entertainment also takes a turn for the worse as a miserable-looking Indian woman begins to dance. The band cranks it up, leaving anyone there for conversation out of luck. You’ll be forced to eat up and either join in, or leave with the music blaring behind you.
