From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009
La Maison d’Hotes is rather oddly sat in a guesthouse tucked away among a series of villas. In a city full of five-star hotels, it is surreal to come across a European-style bed-and-breakfast, complete with a restaurant, café and even a quaint little gift shop.
It is no wonder that La Maison holds such allure for the French nationals that frequently eat here. The main dining room is low lit, and cosily decked out in beige throw pillows and flickering candles.
The space is only short of an Enya soundtrack to make it perfectly resemble a spa waiting room. There are a la carte options, or craftily titled prix fixe dinners, meaning all three courses come out on the same tray – kind of like an upscale ready meal. And it doesn’t taste a great deal better than home-zapped fare.
The simple pleasures of a Mediterranean salad can be enjoyed, however, thanks to its fresh greens and meaty beef. The guest house’s café sells pastries and jars of imported pesto, jams and other goodies, and the back garden boasts a decent sized pool.
While we’re not sure a meal at La Maison d’Hotes is worth a special trip, a stay at the guest house, which oozes provincial charm, certainly would be.
