The concentration of Indian eateries in Karama can overcome the curry hunter, and the packed, frenzied and humid front room of Bikanervala on a weekend could overcome anyone.
Head for the airier back room and try to flag down a waiter. Despite the harried service, the food offers a decent taste of the north west, crammed with street-food-style dishes like onion utappam, raj kachori, bhalla papri and papri chaat.
These chaat combinations – small papadis, corn kachoris and lentil vadas topped with hot, sweet chutneys and potatoes – are the house speciality, and rightly so.
