From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009
Ask a Russian expat where to go for authentic Russian fare, and they are likely to mention this place.
The barrage of soft-rock classics that hits you when you walk through the door may tempt you to walk back out again, but the friendly waiters and bookshelves boasting Cyrillic texts should be enough to lure you into taking a seat.
Besides, some of the songs do serve as a suitable soundtrack, such as Aerosmith’s ‘I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing’, as you be lick the divine bowl of borscht clean for starters. However, 10cc’s ‘I’m Not In Love’ is more appropriate for the mains, as the beef in the baklazhani salad is grisly and chewy, and the main of hammour is an acquired taste, as the slivers of fish are far too smoked for un-Slavic palates.
You will leave the restaurant stuffed, but also pouring with sweat, as Russian food is meant for a much cooler climate. Maybe one for the winter months, but if you do decide to try it out, you might want to bring your iPod.
