From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009
If eating at a restaurant in the middle of a shopping mall doesn’t put you off, perhaps the inclusion of ‘pan-fried aborigine’ on the menu might.
We’re pretty sure the poor soul who typed out the menu meant aubergine but the suggestion of frying up an indigenous person isn’t the only culinary blunder at this meek little Turkish restaurant.
Wedged in a strip alongside other fast food gems like Japengos and Irani Pars, a quick flick through the menu reveals more Lebanese food than appropriate and, somewhat bizarrely, there’s even a Moroccan section.
Whether or not the Turks can claim them as a national dish, the pointedly named ‘Turkish vine leaves’ are disappointingly refrigerated, bland and served up on a bed of shredded lettuce.
The Turkish mains fare better – in particular the Iskenaer kebab (the house specialtywhich is carved from a moist and devilishly succulent lamb and beef spit roast. If you’re adamant about authenticity, give Pasha a wide berth. But if you’re at the mall to catch the latest flick at Cinestar, there’s nothing wrong with stopping by to wolf down a doner kebab or a thick, bitter and sludgy Turkish coffee.
