With its eclectic mix of regional dishes, Dakshin has a wide enough appeal to please most curry lovers. Like many Indian restaurants, the menu here covers treats from all over the country. The masala dosa is typical of the popular street food, with its roll of pancake stuffed with potato and onion.
Then there is koondal porichathu or deep-fried calamari rings in a crispy-spicy batter, a mound of lively onion palak pakora, and an egg masala appam – a delicate and tasty flat pancake of fluffy yolk and spiced vegetables.
The mains feature murgh tikka makhani (silken hunks of tender chicken in a dark and creamy butter sauceand nandu pittu (boneless crab salad with spices and chilli), which makes a pleasant contrast with its flaky meat and crisp shards of onion and pepper.
The mutton biryani boasts spice-infused grains of basmati rice tumbling over juicy nuggets of pink meat, but it is the kulcha – a Punjabi flatbread – that really steals the show.
