Kebab Korner
Bur Dubai restaurant specialising in northern Indian kebabs 2 Reviews
From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009
The industrial-looking Highland Hotel doesn’t exactly fill one with a sense of confidence. But once you step into Kebab Korner (a name that doesn’t inspire much confidence eitherthe decor becomes more tasteful, and the steaming scent of spiced meat inviting.
A swirl of waiters – polite to the point of overbearing – usher you to your seats. In Dubai, food from the north of India often takes a backseat to its southern counterpart. As a result, Kebab Korner’s menu, with its promise of sweaty skewers and hefty curries, is a welcome (if weighty) reprieve. It is also refreshing to see a menu shy away from the staples that tend to stereotype the cuisine.
No, this menu doesn’t stoop to include any kormas or sag paneers. This is a kebab affair. However, at Kebab Korner, you should order anything but kebabs. The flavour of the meat is too intense and smokey, and the texture dense and grainy. But the curries are beguiling.
The tender meat and spicy yet creamy sauces of the dishes save the day. Unfortunately, the restaurant’s outer ambience proves a bit of a barrier for actually giving the place a try, which is a shame, because the food is actually pretty good.
