From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009
While the cheap-and-cheerful curries of Bur Dubai are great, sometimes it pays to splash out on your poppadoms. Nina is more cool Bollywood than hot-and-earthy Delhi, and – if you can get past the snooty reservations line – it’s worth booking in for a taste of Indian fine dining.
With its lofty surroundings and chilled-out ambient beats, it feels like some super-hip members’ club, with friendly, stylish service to match. If you can’t decide what to go for, opt for the taster menu – offering smaller versions of nine of the à la carte dishes, including the famously good tomato butter chicken and a delicate lamb with celery and mint.
The starters are excellent, including a vibrant dosa (South Indian rice and lentil-flour pancakewith an unusual tomato, bean sprout and palm sugar relish, and tandoor-roasted chicken with papaya and coriander pesto – both of which demonstrate an accomplished approach to spicing that means the food is more about flavour than searing heat. Moreover, the decent wine list has plenty of fragrant Rieslings.
