From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009
Yalumba has committed a heinous crime: what was formerly a high-end Aussie eatery has abandoned its steak-flavoured roots and submerged itself in the unadventurous underworld of the buffet.
As if Dubai needed more of an excuse to stuff itself stupid on bland, inexpertly executed food. Perhaps the lack of labels on the vast majority of the starters is intended to add excitement to the otherwise prosaic array of international dishes, which include the usual assortment of Middle Eastern, Indian, Italian and indiscriminate ‘Asian’ fare.
It’s not that the food is awful – a handful of dishes are pretty good – but we’ve seen it all a hundred times before, and, frankly, we’re bored.
It’s still a great spot for Friday brunch, when the buffet suddenly becomes an attractive form of dining out. The setting also rescues Yalumba from utter drudgery: ssituated poolside, with live acoustic guitar music, it’s a pleasant enough place to while away an evening, especially when drinks are at their promotional price of Dhs15 a pop.
However, on normal weeknights the only Australian thing about this now misleadingly named joint is the abundance of kangaroo road signs and clutter.
