From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009
‘I would like to extend a very warm welcome to Zaika. May I just say how beautiful you look? And would you do me the honour of telling me your name?’ Effusive, and frankly overly gushy, service is the name of the game at this otherwise very pleasant two-storey restaurant.
Lying in the heart of the Al Murooj complex, a buggy will whiz you past the crowds at the less than salubrious Double Decker to Zaika, where you’ll be led down a candlelit spiral staircase into a populated, yet oddly quiet space.
Don’t go expecting a curry house: the North Indian menu is actually more kebab-themed, with the lamb shami being a particularly sumptuous combination of external crispiness and tender interior.
If you do opt for a curry, the dhania murgh is a crowd-pleasing creamy option while the quality of the lamb in the gosht rarha is absolutely second to none, virtually disintegrating before it’s even met the fork. The fluffy naan, thin yet expansive, which is prepared before you in the clean, open kitchen, is the crowning glory to a truly tasty affair.
