From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009

Silver Eagle Restaurant is your standard, stark eatery, but what it lacks visually it more than makes up for aromatically.

Riding in on wafts of meat and garlic, tuck yourself in to a cafeteria-style booth and begin the arduous task of reading the menu. With more than 200 offerings, and precious few descriptions, you will quickly be overwhelmed. Take the traditional route, and start out with nihari with its chunks of tender beef in a rich gravy.

To taste the dish, however, you have to dive down through a puddle of oil. Apparently, in Pakistan oil is a sign of wealth, which, we appreciate, is an interesting fact, but not so much as to make up for the thick sheen coating your fork.

Concessions come in the form of the peshawari chicken karahi. The chicken leg, floating in a smoky tomato gravy, is so tender it will fall apart before approaching your fork. The rest of the menu, unfortunately, is a bit hit and miss. But finish off with a delightfully refreshing kheer – rice pudding, flavoured with rose water – to smooth things over.

Over all, the food is not always as refined as it could be, but when the chefs hit the right note, the Silver Eagle soars.
