Al Fresco
Italian food on Sheikh Zayed Road 3 Reviews
From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009
Like a more sedate version of The Poseidon Adventure, the interior of Al Fresco resembles that of an upturned ship, wooden hull arching overhead, while discreet tables stretch out either side of the narrow aisle.
The upshot is a rather atmospheric, intimate little Italian restaurant, with more than a few surprises. The menu is a study in satisfaction, with a few twists on some standard classics. The duck risotto is rich and gooey, the pizzas thin and crispy, and come with real prosciutto ham – not turkey ham, not beef ham, not fish ham, but delicious prosciutto.
The bread is also worth a mention, and it arrives in three different varieties (the olive bread is sensationalwith an irresistible tapenade for dipping. The overall effect is of a restaurant that knows what it’s doing.
The service is decent, although not afraid of interrupting you in order to wave the world’s most oversized pepper grinder over your meal. The desserts are also impressive, with a separate ice cream menu for those still not convinced, although you can’t go far wrong with the dolce goloso, a platter of classic, tiny Italian treats.
Al Fresco is undoubtedly a touch of class, and well worth going down with the ship for.
