Biella
Shopping centre café for Wafi visitors Discuss this article
From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009
A tad more formal than most mall-based eateries, Biella is a refuge for those in need of genuine Italian fodder to sustain them through the shopping centre silliness. Not a venue for those on a tight retail schedule, Biella is a real restaurant serving real food that takes time to prepare.
The decor is simple and straightforward, but that conservatism, thankfully, does not extend to the menu. Yes, the basic bruschettas, pastas and pizzas are all there, but look closer and you’ll find adventurous twists on old favourites.
The minestrone soup, packed with pulses is almost a meal in itself, and the homemade ravioli stuffed with pumpkin, amaretti biscuit and parmesan stuffing, served in a butter and sage sauce is an unusual concoction that works surprisingly well.
Perfectly proportioned mix-and-match pastas provide a great lunch option and the dessert selection, while not overly inspiring, lists all the usual Italian suspects. Dishes are well-cooked and not drastically over-priced.
