From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009

Dubai is well stocked with copy-cat Italian eateries, most of them unremarkable, but Certo stands out for its consistent fine food and reasonable prices.

Try as it does, the somewhat dramatic decor can’t brush off the business hotel vibe, but it is a very good option for lunching suits, if not for those after romance.

The cannellini bean soup with rosemary, garlic and basil oil is outstanding – unshowy but packed with flavour. Jumbo prawns come wrapped in ‘lardo’ pork and bedded in a fragrant pile of lentils. Meanwhile the ‘artisan’ pasta, not quite the measure of fresh homemade pasta, is nevertheless paired well with parma ham and porcini mushrooms. Desserts don’t disappoint, with thoughtful, inventive dishes.

A simple bowl of strawberries in balsamic vinegar and thick-ground pepper is a good example. For atmosphere and service, there are better options, but Certo is certainly up there with its more expensive rivals.

this really is one of the most underrated gems in Dubai - which is a shame on the one hand, but great for people who appreciate truly fabulous food, unpretentious, friendly staff.... and no hooray rah rah tipsy brunch crowds!! The brunch menu, which is served to you by a procession of unobtrusive waiters, is thoughtfully put together, taking you on a delightful culinary journey thru two sets of anti pasti and into the two mains.... and dessert.... you need to pace yourself, to enjoy. I've been here 4, 5 times... with a family group, group of friends, alone and with that special friend... and each time has been a relaxed joy. And I'll be back......

I have had a romantic dinner with my fiance at this restaurant, the service was friendly and discreet at the same time, so perfect for us, we had gnocchi al cacao with porcini mushroom and risotto al cacao with bacon, followed by filetto di branzino with coffee and chocolate, as a sweat end we could not miss chocolate fondant with vanilla ice cream. (this menu is part of february monthly promotion)to be honest we were both "scared" to try this dishes, finally no disappointments, thanks to chef Daniele and his team for proposing this adventorous menu in Dubai. we will be back soon.

An authentic Italian restaurant in Dubai, I had burrata, followed by veal chop brasato style with an excellent glass of Barolo to pair my main. the athmosphere created by Chiara and Claudio both from Italy and their team, make me feel just a step away from Italy. Wish to thank Hellen, who served us with a smile all the time!

I recently relocated to DXB and Certo is certainly going to be my home's kitchen away from Italy. I truly enjoyed the food, and the welcoming atmosphere at the door by Chiara. I enjoyed an authentic pizza 4 formaggi, but i ll definitely come back to taste the rest of the menu' and the the wine's tower..!

Great place with fantastic menu, imagine having a world class meal during a business day. My tuna steak medium cooked was one of the best meals I had since longtime in Dubai .

I dine here every Monday, and I always enjoy the food and the friendly and warm service. The best minestrone soup in DXB. I recommend also this restaurant as pre football match since it's next to Icon Lounge, good sport bar.

The best Italian in the area,by far.Beats the local competition hands down.This is for three reasons: the food,the wine list & Claudio. Claudio adds greatly to the customer experience,with his extensive knowledge of food & wines & his charming, personal & attentive touch.An asset to be retained.The customer experience is clearly the primary objective for Claudio & this comes across every time one visits.
The front of house ladies are also very charming & attractive.Good work;keep it up!

I enjoyed the most authentic Italian food in Dubai, i have had mazzetto d'asparagi e ossobuco alla romagnola, followed by a choccolate mouse with nutella.......amazing! the overall experience has been excellent since the service was accurate and friendly, i was impressed that there is also an Italian guest relation, Chiara, who explained and suggested me what to have. I will go back. Thank you!

is very disappointing see all of this comments explaining how good is this restaurant, might be some friends of the place. my wife and i, as italians, we enjoy go to italian restaurant but when we end up in this place we realized how fake the food can be outside italy. we had a conversation whit a closer table and they end up say that ther is no alternative in dubai. we left all together the place and went for a coffe outside, to continue the conversation.
its very desappointing lie to people about true italianfood. shame on you

Throughly enjoyed our brunch at Certo! We went for a friends birthday and was spolit by all the staff particulary Claudio and Hellen and were even introduced to the chef Daniele! All the staff were friendly and chatty! Claudio went above and beyond, he even brought us a glass of prosecco for her birthday, desert with candles and sung happy birthday! Even had our face painted by the children's clown! Whilst it is a cheaper brunch don't be deterred! The food was fantastic we ate way too much! ! Great day out, easy location!

Anytime we are homesick Certo is the easiest and right choice. After 5 years in DXB I'm glad to support the entire dedicated Team always going the extra mile for us. I have no esitation in recommending the venue for the exquisite attention given to details, from the welcoming to the selection, all the way to wine and foods, also loving the possibility of having some extra for our request. A very good alternative to the typical brunch approach. You can just sit back and enjoy the amazing dishes. The dishes have a genuine Italian taste and it feels like dining in an upscale "trattoria". A must try in Dubai.
Will definitely recommend to friends and come back with visitors.

There is a big discrepancy from what they promot and what really is. However if you are a regular you are treated better then if you are not and is not acceptable.

I have been a patron of this restaurant for last 4 years and i am shocked to see some of these comments. I work in the area & i have been visiting Certo along with my colleagues at least 4 times a week.
The service is always great and friendly, the food quality is consistent which i can't say for many so called Italian restaurants in Dubai.
We have known evey Chef, Manager that has worked in Certo even the General Manager stop by frequently to say hello & check on our satisfaction.
We love Certo for its simplicity & great food.
Keep it up guys!

i've been to this restaurant once and the food was great and the service as well. the staff are very friendly and the atmosphere is just perfect. the chef came to the table to suggest some dishes and to propose the special of the night. while the manager came at the end of the meal to check our satisfaction. never been for lunch but my friend did and told me that is good as well considering the business lunch price.

I just wander how people can give awards to such restaurants.
I travel around the world and dine in restaurant plenty of times, but this restaurant is far away from what the italian restaurant is about. The decor is orrrible, Adams family looks like, lasagna is a brick of no taste, the service forgot about you after you sit down never aknowledge the guest, the music is painfull, management is so proud of them selfs that do not recognize the difference between a gentelman to a phony gentelman forgetting what hospitality is about.
I do bealive if we do not found incompetence, negligence step-in.

Yes can be a deal for business lunch you say, but if you tell me to pay 85dhs and wait more than one hour for my meal, which kind a deal is this? The service is fast, but who's preparing it do not know how to organize. I suppose to ask more of a better deal from an awarded italian restaurant. If you put on the wall frame of echivment and you do not deliver, they will only remain on the wall and nobody will care how you are.

It's the usual italian restaurant outside italy, what do you expect? service is good, but food, jess. usully i sat on the Chef table with my dates, you could hear how many times i heard the ''F"" word in one day. They spolied my food, listening to this incompetent chef Beating with words the dining staff. Management do not help at all to make xfactor unless they are with hans in the poket or on the phone. to bed for the italians.

I was there on friday with my husband, that was my first visit at Certo for Brunch, we was very happy about the food and the service, all the staff was very friendly and helpfull...
The quality of the food is very high, and the food UNBELIEVABLE!!
I suggest Certo for Brunch also during Ramadan, without alcohol we really appreciate the truly italian food

I visited Certo today for lunch. I ordered the Business Lunch (priced at approx 75AED). I was interested in the pizza for main course. Since I don't eat shrimp or seafood, I asked if I can change the topping on the pizza -- ie, switch the toppings on the business lunch menu. I was told that yes, I can order a topping from the a la carte menu. When I received the bill, I saw that I had been charged separately (and a la carte prices) for the appetizer and the pizza. When I complained, I was told that since I had requested a new topping on the pizza, the business lunch deal was no longer valid. This is very unprofessional of the waiter who took my original order. If I had been told that there would be an extra charge or I would be charged a la carte prices, I would have chosen the Penne Primavera from the Business lunch menu. At the time of paying, there was somebody else who handled the check who claimed ignorance and even looked like she called the original waiter but then insisted that I pay. In most restaurants around the world, they are able to switch a topping or not use a specific ingredient because of dietary restrictions as a courtesy for NO CHARGE. Worst case, I will be informed up-front that there will be an extra charge and then I can decide to change my mind or go ahead with the order.

Poor service...

Very underwhelming experience, poor service, average food, painfully small portions and you find yourselves constantley pleading for more food - it just isn't necessary when they are serving salad pasta and pizza. It's not offensive though in a city with so much choice there are better value brunches out there, The Wharf at Mina A’Salam hotel Madinat Jumeirah, The Movenpick bur Dubai and the warehouse at Le Meridien are all far better ways of spending time and money with friends on a Friday afternoon.

We was yesterday for brunch, it was the most bad brunch experience I ever had in my live, all food was not tasty, all food arriving on the table already cold, waiters running around with big plates and put on your plate if u ask or not, if u like or not - it’s like u get the food in school, only difference is in school you go to the counter, and receive hot food, not cold food! Even all tastes were similar to canteen food.

I ordered on separate Plate Mozzarella because I was going crazy to get my plate stuffed full with things I didn´t want and ask for. After 30 Minutes they brought new plate with 3 pcs tomato and 3 pcs mozzarella, after the waiters got the point that I am close to explode, he brought a bigger but still small portion. The Lasagna taste bad, the Pizza almost OK, like already say form other guy, risotto was undercooked, and cold like from fridge, my Wife ordered a own Pizza as it arrive at the table, already 2 Pcs was missing, imagine!!

The service is VERY BAD, Cappuccino took 1 hour, drinks get not refilled, unit u ask strong, even old cans are not moved from the tables, after strong speak out with manager it was working proper for about 5 min. The Waiters are unfriendly at all, after complaining they get more unfriendly.

NEVER GO THERE, DONT SPLASH YOUR MONEY!!!!
DONT SPLASH YOUR WEEKEND, U WILL BE VERY ANGRY THE WHOLE DAY!

I had a very hard week, and was searching nice Place for relaxing day, and it was really all other then this!

My friend complained old yellow salad, and they even not removed, from the table, typical Indian “no idea” face, same happened to a women opposite, but she found a very long hair, I her food !

And that Place got Time Out Award for 3rd year in 2009, how is this possible?

Let’s see, i had small portion of Mozzarella, 1 x medium size Lasagna, 2 Cappuccino, and 2 x Cola, and 2 Dessert, by the way, Dessert, 4 Items - Tiramisu, really each instant Tiramisu from Supermarket is delicate against that, I was not even getting the idea, I expected it’s something like coffee cream, looks like this! , some small very very dry pie, something with ingwer, not taste really in any direction, and one small biscuit wit very sour fruits - all items, was big like a cup of a cola bottle.
A sorry I forgot, one lamb shop (cold) but tasty and one pcs of fish and something else, we don’t know, because, u get it on your plate, nobody ever explain what u receive.
Which value for money we speaking about?

when my whole family came we were ignored by the host or the manager and the restaurant was not that busy.
After making a bit of noise a waiter come in an apologize then asked us to sit on the bar and have a drink.
Finally we sat and the food was very disappointing. the Sea bass was not fresh and taste weird, the tagliatalla was over cooked and dry. Found plenty of yellow old leaves on he roquette salad. the waiters are rude and cold...and the bill...not worth it.

When we arrived last night (8pm), and the restaurant was half full (or half empty), we've been told to have some drinks at the lounge. After mentioning the empty table, the manager came and explained, that there are so much order for the kitchen, that we won't be served before 30min. Now I wonder why having such a restaurant (with so much table) with such a small kitchen, if you can't handle all orders! How do they do, if the restaurant is full?? We still decided to go for it, and indeed had to wait 40min for the food, however drinks came very quickly.
I still can't believe that I paid >AED600 for 4 drinks, 4 pizza, 1 soup and 2 espresso! Yes the food was good, but EURO14 for a Pizza??? Come on!!!
After doubting about the "fresh" mushrooms, we were assured that they were freshly cut before placed on the pizza, but I am sure that they came directly from the can! For that price this can't be!
I have tried the new pizzerias on JBR, with an equivalent quality of Pizza and much cheaper, I won't go back to Certo. If I need Romantic then I go to Splendido @ Ritz-Carlton...

This is the only restaurant in Dubai where my husband and I go back again and again. We are always put in our corner table near the beautiful see-through wine vault. The decor is mature and classy, the food is always fantastic, and the service is unbeatable. After our first meal we were impressed by the staff, then we walked in for a second time and our waiter immediately remembered the special cocktail I ordered a month before! Management always checks on your satisfaction and the chef usually sends over an amuse bouche on the house. You feel as if you are in a very high-end restaurant until the bill comes - best value in dubai as far as I'm concerned.

We went for a Friday brunch yesterday...paid 190 dirhams each for a '5 course meal' and 'bottomless' house wine. There was a menu and everything on it sounded fab. However, the reality was that waiters brought round big platters of every dish on the menu, but if you wanted something, you only got a tiny portion (ie a spoonful of risotto, a tiny slice of pizza etc). Then you had to wait 20m at least for another tiny portion of something else. So yes, it was 5 courses - but they were absolutely miniscule & didn't fill anybody up. Not good enough when you are paying that much money, AND the quality of the food was very average given the restaurant's reputation (risotto undercooked, chicken overcooked, etc etc)!! Also, we had to keep asking for them to refill our wine as the service was slow & pretty unattentive. Overall, maybe Certo do a great lunch & dinner but the brunch was a big disappointment....my advice? Don't go!

My partner and I dine at Certo on a weekly basis practically and it's a must when friends come to visit from back home. We've tried everything on the menu and there is not one dish I could fault. The service is always spot on but I would recommend sitting away from the entrance as it does feel like you're eating in the hotel foyer.

Food is cooked in front of you. As an Italian I can witness all the products used with no exception is Italian 100%. The Manager takes care of every smallest detail and make sure everything is just perfect. The value of the meal for it's bill its probably the best deal in town. I personally dine in Certo at least 3 to 4 times a week when I am in town.

This is my second visit to Certo, and I must say that I am just as impressed the second time as I was the first!!
I frequent many high end restaurants in Japan, and I have been accustomed to receiving the best quality, taste and presentation of all chosen food. Certo certainly ranks amongst the very best that I have ever experienced in the world!
The service was really top class, and the manager was highly aware of each and every individual customer's needs, and he was highly skilled in management of all affairs at all times.
I was very impressed!!!!

Thank you very much for an extremely enjoyable experience once again.I will most certainly come back the next time I visit Dubai!

Certo is my favourite restaurant in Dubai. I have been to many restaurants however the ambience and service is always consistent. It's a pleasure to see people who care about their customers. Talking with passion about the food and the fact that so many Italians eat here is a clear demonstration of how authentic the food is.

You can't beat the pizza - only Naples pizzeria's come close.

Then there's Giovanni - he makes you feel like you are at his mamma's house but it still feels like a high end restaurant- that's pretty unique!

Certois by far the best restaurant in Dubai and should definetely win a prize for best food and service in the category. Is the only restaurant where you can find a friendly atmosphere with the elegant touch of a fine dining restaurant. A very enjoyable place.

Not sure that I would agree that it is too business hotel like.

If you sit outside overlooking the golf course - it is very romantic, although too dark.

But great food, great service and very reasoanbly priced for a top end restaurant.

I would have no hesitation in receommending this place.

One tip - order a cab for a time when you arrive; as it can take a long time to get a cab after a meal.
