From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009

Your meal at Duo Ristorante kicks off with a bowl of clotted, green mousse. It turns out to be garlicky, green olive spread, and a tasty one at that, if a bit, well, odd. That seems to be a theme that carries through to the rest of the food, too.

It all looks normal enough: the menu is a mishmash of burgers, carpaccio, pizza and risotto, but, it all ends up tasting similar, in that none of it’s particularly good. Some enthusiasm may be found by those who are simply famished and are too busy wolfing the food to notice the brown spots on the beef carpaccio, unthawed salmon tartar and glutinous risotto.

But if you like to use your eyes and taste buds when eating, you are likely to be disappointed. Duo Ristorante is certainly not a place to take a gourmand, but, with myriad options and low prices, it’s probably perfect for those who crave a cheap-and-cheerful takeaway spot.

Never in my life have I read such an unfair and untrue review. Having lived all over the World and tried all sorts of different cuisines I can say with a hand on my heart that Duo is one of the best value for money Italian restaurants that I have come accross. Not only is there something on the menu for EVERYONE (from pizza, pasta, meat, seafood, salads) but the portions are so big even a starter will pretty much fill you up. Just to explain - their garlic bread with chesse is big enough to be shared comfortably between three people! The food is beyond tasty and their Chocolate Fondent is the 2nd best in Dubai. (The one in The Cellar is just a little bit better) The staff are friendly and attentive without being annoying. It is the only restaurant in Dubai which will deliver you their delicious food to your front door within 30 minutes and it will be steaming hot! I have eaten there on numerous occasions and never once have I been presented with a 'green mousse' that this reviewer is banging on about.
