Kisaku - Restaurant Award Highly Commended

Tokyo-inspired Japanese restaurant in Deira 11 Reviews

From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009

Stationed on the top floor of Deira’s kooky Al Khaleej Palace Hotel, Kisaku is one of Dubai’s best Japanese restaurants.

The grey, mirrored bistro is a whirl of activity, packed with animated Japanese businessmen drinking sake and having a great time while sumo competitions play on TV and petite waitresses whir around with plates of Tokyo-inspired delicacies. Food-wise, the Don menu of sublime assorted sashimi is a great place to start.

Then dip into the nami sushi selection. Seven fat pieces of nigiri come gorgeously garnished with spring onions and ginger, and taste heavenly. The hotate scallops lord it over the teppanyaki menu, and the well-textured bean curd salad is full of tasty vegetables.

The Others menu is for the truly adventurous; the oddest of the dishes being the tuna sashimi in a gloopy white paste. Be sure to leave room for dessert; the tart green tea ice-cream and juicy glutinous mochi rice cakes finish off a tip-top meal.

Been there for a few times. The food is great. But the service is non-consistent. The Japanese staffs are incredibly friendly, but the Filipino staffs are moody -no eyes contact, no smile, pushy and bad body language. I almost made an issue on my first trip due to the attitude of the waitresses.

Overall, I will still go back to the restaurant for the food, only hopeful to be served by Japanese staffs.

This is so far the best true Japanese Restaurnat here in Dubai!! Having been the others, this is truly serving real Japanese food at affordable prices and they have so many Japanese staff...from the Head Chef to the line staff. What more can you ask for??? When I am in there, it reminds me of little Tokyo as most guests are Japanese. Oishi!

This restaurant flies under the radar due to its location but die-hard Japanese enthusiasts and expats frequent it so much you usually need to book ahead. Great food from a great chef with great service. The restaurant and the hotel may lack in the style stakes when compared to Nobu, Zuma but we're here to eat and not "be seen".
