From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009
This slick beachside bar/restaurant is still one of Dubai’s trendiest spots, despite having been open for longer than most of its rivals have been built. It’s permanently busy as a result, so book ahead to ensure a spot on the terrace overlooking the water. The food is consistently good, though not outstanding.
The vegetable maki is excellent – we especially love the mushrooms. But the Lounge Regular – a sushi and sashimi mix – is not much better than you’d expect from a decent takeout joint and, given the much higher price tag, is disappointing.
The vegetarian selection also plays it safe and lacks inspiration as a result. Mains tend to fare better. The marinated duck is a tad overdone, but juicy with just the right contrast of sweet and sour, while the accompanying beans provide a crunchy and fresh-tasting contrast.
You’ll find more adventurous Japanese in Dubai, but Sho Cho is still an excellent choice for diners wanting slick service, an attractive outdoor setting and a decent vibe.
