From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009

Teppenyaki chefs are born entertainers, and the ones at Tokyo@thetowers are no exception. Set in the centre of the Jumeirah Emirates Towers Boulevard, dinner time at Tokyo is livened by a circus-like whirlwind of party tricks – the perfect icebreaker for an awkward date.

Choose from meat, seafood or surf ‘n’ turf, and watch it being flung around in front of your eyes, along with props like salt and pepper shakers and worryingly sharp knives. Though teppanyaki is the main draw, other Japanese cuisine is on offer, like warming bowls of miso soup, salads of green leaves and seaweed, shrimp, crunchy tempura and sashimi from the sushi bar.

If you chose not to sit around the chef or sushi bar, there are Western-style tables set around a contemporary, though dimly-lit restaurant with large pillars and a view of a shoe shop.

Not the best view – which is why it’s recommended to phone ahead and secure a front row seat. A little pricey, but remember that you’re paying for dinner and a show.

I would not go again, we were there last week and all the sauces were the same on the Steak, Chicken and Prawns, the food it not worth the money any more, it was great in 2006 but we were in and out in one hour, been to better Tappanyaki's, very disapointing for Dubai

Tried both the restaurants now, and I will never go back there.

Upstairs, the Teppanyaki was bad. We where in and out in one hour. On a day off I would like to relax and sit a while with my food. Besides that, we had the Crab Salad. This should be Crab Salad and not Crabstick Salad (price wise a BIG difference). Also the Tempura came while we were still eating a first course. Our Tempura was cold when we started to eat it.

Downstairs, the Sushi place.... very pricy for what you get. The quality is not the best (what you would expect when you see the prices). Edamame was not hot and not tasty. The sushi-rice was way overcooked and to sweet. We had 6 pieces of sushi, 9 pieces of nigiri, 2 miso soup, and 2 drinks for the price of 260 AED.

We also been to Zuma for lunch once, and at least they have a good menu for a nice price!

Frequent visitor for business lunches. Average at best and less so considering the money
