Black Canyon is a chain of Thai restaurants with other branches around Dubai. It’s easy to write off a restaurant if it’s part of a chain, as you can often think of soulless corporate stereotypes, but Black Canyon is definitely worth a look.

This Dubai Marina branch has seating upstairs and down, but stick with eating at street level – it’s got a bit more atmosphere. Starters are the predictable spring rolls and other deep-fried fare, or you can order a platter that covers most dishes. Far better to pick from the wide choice of mains.

If you want something a little different, try the rice and prawns served in half a pineapple, or maybe the chicken and rice housed in an omelette pouch. Or go for a classic curry. The portions are large, but you will finish every delicious bite of the steaming bowl of red Thai chicken curry or well-spiced beef papang curry, along with the generous portions of rice. The service is also good and non-intrusive.

There are many positives to dining at Black Canyon, not least because you can find one pretty much anywhere in Dubai, but also because you will find filling, affordable and reliable Thai food at the heart of it.
