From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009
Much improved by its stylish refurbishment, trendy bar-cum-restaurant Lotus One is perfect for an intimate dinner – just pack a torch so you can read the menu. The lack of word of mouth surrounding this place means that you’re in for a pleasant surprise.
Waiters and waitresses are knowledgeable without being overbearing, although it’s worth asking on arrival if everything on the menu is available – on our visit, it was only once we were ordering that we were told three starters were sold out. Despite an outwardly Thai appearance, the menu yields a confusing array of cuisines: starters range from an Italian tapas platter to chicken malai tikka, but opt for deep-fried sesame and cayenne hammour and you won’t regret it.
The fish is so soft it swims down your throat, and the chilli dip has a fabulously fiery kick. For mains, parmesan-crusted sea bream, pad Thai and Australian rib-eye steak jostle for your attention, but if you can’t decide, go for the fusion platter. Chowing down on a mouthful of tender, but slightly over-cooked, filet mignon just after you’ve slurped up a juicy wok-seared tiger prawn might feel a little odd, but at least you won’t get food envy.
