Excellent steaks in the Mall of The Emirates Reviews

From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009

Food court dining typically promises little and delivers less, but the Mall of the Emirates’ effort is a tad different to most dens of grease and screwed-down seating. The peculiar point about this place, given that it has the word ‘butcher’ in its title, is that the veg is better than the meat.

The fillet, for example, doesn’t look that expertly filleted, and isn’t quite the organic affair that might be expected; no ruddy cheeked gents in apron and a white hat here. The vegetarian platter, however, is better. The halloumi cheese, sweet potato, and good range of vegetables, are all most welcome.

The service, the décor, the location and the presentation are all pretty average, but for a decent enough steak in a shopping mall, you could do a lot worse.

Steak, South African style. It’s not something every knows about but, Butcher Shop and Grill certainly delivers. It’s not a one stop Braai, but when compared to the many steakhouses in Dubai it certainly ranks up high. The menu is varied with anything from mushroom pies to something with monkey gland sauce (not that there are any monkeys used in the sauce). They also serve some of the cheapest wagyu sirloin around, and it’s not substituted in quality, but maybe in size.

Beverages are quite standard but there is a mint drink of what name escapes me that is particularly delectable. The surroundings are decently furnished but are not themed or directed at anything in particular. Lots opportunities to make the butcher shop and grill more atmospheric and I daresay South African were sorely missed. Service is up to quite a well standard as waiters are always helpful. Price wise nearly everything on the menu is tasty and worth what you paid for it. All in all the Butcher Shop and Grill is perfect stop for taming the inner carnivore, yours or the families.
