From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009
This distinguished steakhouse is as close as to an institution as it is possible to get in Dubai’s eating out scene. While others were still a chrome-tinted glint in an interior designer’s eye, JW’s was already dusting down the leather armchairs and polishing its wooden tables for the city’s CEOs and steak lovers.
Everything about the restaurant screams old school quality. Or rather, it murmurs it with the authority and grace to be expected of an elder statesman. Like a venerable gentlemen’s club alongside a pumping disco this is a restaurant for those that can understand and appreciate the quality of slowing down and savouring the finer things in life. Oysters, foie gras and fine wines set the tone and deliver an expectation of wealth that the restaurant makes no attempt to shake off.
Freed of the need to innovate or deliver a ‘modern twist on old classics’, JW’s serves simple steaks and baked potatoes to a very high standard. The masterstroke, however, is that JW’s manages this without becoming stuffy or snobbish. Like a good butler, this is a restaurant that can make you feel right at home while still delivering unquestionable quality.
