From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009
Rare is an exemplary haven for aficionados of steak. From the offset things look promising, as you’re ushered through the cool, dark and minimalist interior of the dining area and out onto the balcony with a view of polo fields.
A loosener of slightly stale bread may induce a momentary sense of disquiet, but any doubts are stamped on in delicate, but decisive fashion by an amuse bouche of a rapturous melon gazpacho. The starters are equally good: the pigeon releases lingering notes of flavour that will have you gnawing like a Neanderthal at the tiny bones, and the fresh gaminess of the guinea foul is offset by its earthy chestnut cream accompaniment. And things get even better with the mains.
The venison’s ruby-red exterior yields woozily at the press of a knife to reveal its pale pink and complexly flavoured flesh. The wagyu steak is seriously pricey, and therefore sets itself high standards, but doesn’t fail to deliver. A dessert of rhubarb and apple crumble comes with a cute jug of vanilla bean sauce.
It’s beautifully conceived, just like everything else about this restaurant. A Rare find in every sense of the word.
