From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009
Good atmosphere but mediocre steaks make The Rib Room a bittersweet evening’s mission for meat. The stylish decor gives off a good feeling about the quality of the establishment, even if the red and black colour scheme is a bit ‘80s yuppie bachelor pad’.
Service is attentive, but not to the point that you can’t string a few sentences together without being asked if everything is alright. The resulting impression is of somewhere fairly sophisticated, but trendy too – fellow diners look upmarket and interesting enough to add to the experience, but are not seated so near that you are asking them to pass the salt. A set of excellent starters fulfils this early promise, particularly the seafood.
But the reason to visit a steakhouse is steak, and here the promise is broken. Not even tenderloin Australian wagyu quite makes the grade – it’s soft enough, but not melt in the mouth, and lacking any memorable flavour. Although, a side of signature Rib Room spiced fries might help alleviate the disappointment.
Coated in chilli powder, they give the food the kind of distinctive kick the steak is regrettably unable to provide. Prices are reasonable too. Just manage your expectations on the meat.
