From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009
A swift walk across The Palace hotel’s surprisingly breathtaking grounds leads you to Thiptara. Meaning, ‘The magic at the water’ in Thai, the restaurant is situated overlooking the hotel’s pool, at the base of the mighty Burj Dubai.
Of course, the dishes’ price tags are equally awe-inspiring – unless you go for the economical set menu, at around Dhs250 per person. Lay down the gauntlet, and plate after bowl will arrive – fortunately filled with increasingly satisfying fare, including some sensational Bangkok-style seafood and particularly delicious khao niew mamaung (mango and sticky rice.
As well as the view outside (and the random balls of fire that flicker in the windows), the design inside is extremely impressive, with dark wood and high ceilings, as well as modish furniture and soothing Thai sounds. Recommended.
