Packed with Filipinos most nights, this homely little restaurant serves up tasty portions from one of the lesser-known Asian cuisines. A medley of Malay, Spanish and even Mexican fare, Bulgawan makes a truly flavoursome mixed fried rice, which is perfect as comfort food, as are the pancit canton noodles, with shreds of lettuce, chicken and prawn.

The cut-price garlic shrimps are another stand out – though, bring your breath mints. Or you could get intrepid and banish the bad breath with a gulaman sago – a sickly sweet gelatin and tapioca dessert.
