From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009
You may raise your eyebrows over the name, but Leon (as it shall be henceforth referred to for reasons of brevity and good taste) has done perfectly well despite – or perhaps even because of – its moniker. Due to its success in Belgium it has spread to Europe, and now Leon has reached Dubai.
Unfortunately, this promising news doesn’t yield immediate results when it comes to the food. The starters are a bit of a miss – thin slices of avocado and a handful of prawns are lost in a sea of tasteless iceberg lettuce. However, mussels are, of course, the name of the game here, and the choices do not disappoint. Recommended is the simple moules marinière – a lovely dish that evokes the salty smell of the ocean.
The staff are, at times, smothering (probably because the restaurant tends to be half empty most of the week), but they are efficient, and you’ll likely be in and out within the hour. But don’t go without dessert, as the Belgians know a thing or two about waffles.
They probably contain a week’s supply of calories, but, drizzled in syrup, they make an exceptionally strong finish to a meal that gets better with every course.
