From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009
If Time Out had to sum up its consistent culinary disappointment in this city in terms of its piscine offerings, we could do so in one word: salmon. Almost without exception the so-called king of fish is reduced to a pallid, flabby shadow of itself, and is then often overcooked to boot.
Not so at Salmontini. In this cosy Mall of the Emirates restaurant (complete with the obligatory viewing panel onto Ski Dubai), salmon resumes its rightful place at the top of the culinary food chain. All the fish is smoked in-house and tastes wonderfully fresh as a result.
The salmon tartare, particularly, is highly recommended – the balance of capers and citrus perfectly offsetting the marinated raw salmon flesh. It’s not often that you’re going to want to follow the primary ingredient in your starter with that in your main, but you’d be advised to do so here, marking Salmontini out as a winner and reconfirming that, in culinary terms, it is the exception that proves the rule.
