From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009
The azure jewel in the Burj Al Arab’s culinary crown is a strange little curio: a combination of both stylish and kitsch. For kitsch is the only word that can be applied to a dinner that begins with a ride in an ‘underwater submarine’ (is there any other sort?
The dining room, on the other hand, is sleek and inviting; starched tablecloths – which match the formal uniforms of the genial wait staff – and plush seating are set around a central, cylindrical floor-to-ceiling aquarium. So far, so unique, but sadly the food doesn’t measure up.
It’s not that it’s bad – for the most part, what’s served is very good – it’s just that, with a sweep of new restaurants headed up by internationally renowned chefs opening across Dubai, this venue, in culinary terms, has quite simply been outclassed.
