Everything in this restaurant screams of fish; it should shout it loud and proud, too, as its piscine platters are delicious. Intricate, motionless shoals glint from the terrace; the grandiloquent chandeliers look like over-sized lobster cages; the port-facing wooden decking and the gently lapping creek give you a saline-fresh feeling, while back inside the restaurant, the BFG-friendly ceilings and dramatic wall light fixtures make you feel like you’re dining on a luxurious cruise ship.
There are some disappointing aspects of the restaurant, however; the fish on display, although firm and plump on their frozen pillows, aren’t the attention grabbers they should be, tucked away at the back of the restaurant. Also, if you like a Pinot Grigio with your fishy dish, you’ll have to trade the sublime terrace for the indoor seating, with its frosty air conditioning, glacial atmosphere and no-smoking ban. But the food alleviates any concerns.
The calamari is as fresh and squidgy as a newbie at fat-camp, gigantic shrimps come with a finger-licking-good smoky sauce, and the fleshy carcass of the red snapper draws gasps.
