From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009

It’s easy when confronted with the sharp end of Dubai’s booming food industry to overlook the stalwarts of the scene – those restaurants that offer good food, solid service and a fine setting – in preference to one of the more fashionably favoured kitchens of the moment.

Which is why a visit to The Aquarium remains a delight. The fish tank it derives its name from seems like a goldfish bowl in comparison to those at some of the city’s more recent openings, but this is by the by. You can always look out the window for a splendid creek-side view if you need something other than your dining companion to admire. What really impresses here is the food.

A starter of crab cakes is light and delicate, another of scallops, fresh and yielding. For mains, the fanned fillet of red snapper is delicious, and while a slightly overcooked dish of seared tuna is less successful, the subtle play of flavours provides adequate compensation.

Round things off with the trio of crème brûlée correctly prepared with the requisite firm, sugary crust and unctuous interior. Then simply sit back and enjoy the view.

We went for dinner. It was fabulous! More worth it than going to Al Mahara. :)
