Seafood restaurant on Sheikh Zayed Road offers value for money dining 2 Reviews
From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009
Plonking a restaurant in a residential tower along Sheikh Zayed Road is not a particularly wise business decision – unless, of course, it gives you reason to seek it out; which Fish & Co doesn’t.
The fare is pleasant enough, but irksome factors mar the evening: the confused decor – industrial-looking stainless steel lights, white clapboard walls, grainy photos of Singaporean fishermen in cheap Ikea-style frames, the odd plastic trout – is unsettling, and a vast (physically speakingmenu with determined-to-close pages is infuriatingly awkward to navigate.
It’s elements such as these which can instantly turn you off a restaurant. And it’s a shame, as the prawn fritters are plump, the squid is just chewy enough, softly swaddled in a feather-light, beautifully seasoned batter, and the mains are served with some surprisingly good sauces, which make up for the chewiness of the tuna steak.
The chips and veggies make for fresh-tasting side orders and the quivering panna cotta dessert is deliciously moreish. All in all, Fish & Co serves up nice-enough fare but, given its awkward location, we can’t help but wonder how long it will be able to survive before drowning in Dubai’s sea of similarly priced, but better-placed restaurants.
