So good they named it twice? It worked for New York, but for Persia Persia, the newest restaurant in Wafi City’s eclectic culinary stable? Not quite.
A pleasant personal touch is when the hostess greets you by name. However, this is undermined by the fact the place is usually empty – she is bound to know who you are, being the only diners there and all. Alfresco dining is made particularly pleasant, albeit Vegas-esque, with the Arabian Night’s styling of Persia Persia’s pretty terrace and the gentle glow of the surrounding Wafi pyramids providing a pleasantly surreal backdrop.
Things start well with a complimentary selection of traditional flatbread and crudités, and starters are workaday but good. However, with the main course it all goes a bit wrong: the duck is dry to the point of almost being preserved and the lamb kebabs are served luke warm (perhaps cooling while the duck is overcooked. Solid desserts begin to re-tip the balance towards good, however, not so much to warrant praise in the ‘customer satisfaction survey’, which arrives with the bill; asking for trouble, really, in a restaurant of this standard.
Although, hopefully, they will take note of the comments and improve on the food so it can match the standard of the setting.
