From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009
Marrakech has a fine pedigree – including two Time Out Best North African restaurant awards. Nevertheless, it isn’t one of the city’s best-known restaurants – perhaps because its modern take on traditional Moroccan cuisine caters to more of a niche market; or it may just be that the restaurant doesn’t feel the need to shout from the rooftops about its past successes.
Whatever the reason, you’ll get a decent meal. Use the warm, fluffy buns to dig into bowls of mezze. The pigeon pastilla scores highly for starters; it’s a successful shotgun wedding between a sugary pastry and a tender, meaty interior and big enough for two to share.
Mains are equally appealing. The mountainous couscous royal is golden, perfectly steamed and packed with carrots, swede, hunks of super-soft lamb, veal and a disintegrating chicken drumstick. If you’ve room, share the kenafa for dessert – layers of wafer-thin pastry sandwiching vanilla custard.
It might be too sweet for some palates but sugar lovers will lap it up.
