Sarband

From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009
It may have all the outward appearance of a (licensedPars, with cushioned day beds and the resounding ping of repetitive Persian synth music, but what Sarband has in atmosphere and comfort doesn’t quite compensate for the rather bland kebabs and very average appetisers.
The mast laboo, Iran’s signature yoghurt purpled up with chunks of beetroot, is definitely worth a try and brings a dash of life to the pretty lifeless mains this place serves up. The bakhtiari kebab combo doesn’t measure up to the city’s other fine Persian spots – we’re quite sure that even a pinch more saffron would have given the rice some much-needed spark.
While the mirza ghasemi, a fried aubergine casserole that should be incredible, is not worth bothering with here, particularly with the limp, pale bread they serve it up with. A so-so option if you’re looking for alfresco Persian eating that still allows a tipple, but there are far more satisfying and cheaper spots than this.
