From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009
If the daily calorie onslaught of Dubai has left you hungering for lighter, more nutritious fare, Al Bayt Al Baghdadi’s your place. The owners have attempted to add character with weeping plastic plants and sporadic arched windows, but there’s no escaping the two-storey venue’s lack of customers.
There are all the usual Lebanese staples – the fattoush salad is particularly good, the mutabbal so-so – but head to the back of the menu and you’ll find some more unusual, Iraqi options. Opt for the special, maskuf, a fish dish cooked for 45 minutes in the traditional Iraqi fashion on a bed of hot coals.
It is served whole and accompanied by raw onions, lemon, Arabic bread and tongue-tinglingly sharp mango chutney – although the fish is moist and flavoursome enough to be enjoyed on its own.
