Al Hallab
Friendly Arabic pit-stop in Garhoud 5 Reviews
From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009
A perennial lunchtime favourite with Garhoud nine-to-fivers, this Lebanese standby shells out some of the best Arabic fare in town. Though the atmosphere may be a bit stark, and the service, at times, rather gruff, the food itself rarely disappoints.
Sesame-inflected balls of falafel finds the perfect balance between a crisp exterior and soft, giving interior, and the bread – dusted with hints of cinnamon – is fresh baked, and a far cry from the limp, packaged pitas that are served in many of the city’s other established eateries.
Baba ganoush is a smoky, elegant dip that soars above many of its counterparts, and sandwiches are stunningly reasonable (at Dhs9, we dare you to find a cheaper shish taouk. If you order wisely, it’s quite possible for a large group to fill up on Dhs30 each.
Also, if you want to bring a care package back home, you could do worse than pick up a batch of Al Hallab’s fresh-baked baklava – your friends will love you for bringing in these crumbly and buttery confections.
