Al Khaima
Licensed Arabic restaurant in Dubai Discuss this article
From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009
A profusion of unnecessary TVs is the only form of ambience in this pretty average diner. You might be able to catch ‘classic’ football matches, or a variety of Lebanese and Egyptian reality TV, but Al Khayma sadly ends up feeling like a sports bar-cum-Bedouin tent. But, the food is largely good and the surprisingly un-greasy shawarma plate from the grill is satisfying.
Portions are huge, and, at the prices, are good value. Mezze is a slight disappointment, with a rather limp, soggy fattoush salad coming with an unexceptional houmous Beiruty. But while service is warm and the clientele reassuringly Arabic, atmosphere is important, and, tucked away at the back of Dubai Marine, Al Khayma could be so good.
Swift service make it a good spot for a casual bite, but it’s just not got the buzz or distinction of dishes to keep you running back.
